This week we are going to be starting the process of drawing our very first self-portraits! At home, look in the mirror with your child. Point out to them all the details of their face such as their eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, eyelashes, teeth, hair, ears; every detail you can point out. Talk to them about the color of their eyes, and all the different shapes they they see in their face. Talk to them about the whether their hair is straight or curly, long or short; use LOTS of describing words. We will use a similar process in class using mirrors, but it will definitely help them if you prepare them for this at home. We will begin to hang up the drawings very soon, so look for them in the hallway:)

Innovative Instructional Techniques
Here at Redwood Early Childhood Center we use a Reggio inspired teaching/learning approach. Your children will be learning using hands-on experiences. They will learn from each other, and from the adults around them. This curriculum is meaningful, child-centered, and geared to address children's interests and developmental and cultural needs. As your child's teachers, we will provide materials and interactions to stimulate the emergence of your child's ideas and understandings. As the children engage, the teachers observe, offer guidance, and work with children in further pursuing their interests.
